Tips and Tricks for BOM Success

Today I just wanted to chat with you about some things that will help the year be an extra-amazing and set you up for success:

  • Choosing Fabrics and color schemes
  • How to stay organized throughout the year
  • Printing to scale
  • Gathering supplies
  • Keeping up

Get the Lay of the Land

Sometimes a new website and login can feel completely overwhelming. If you are not quite sure how to access your portal or just want a run-through, check out this 3 minute walk through!

Get Inspired!

The other night at a guild meeting, one of our BOM members mentioned her ideas for her color scheme for this quilt and my brain just about exploded! I hadn’t thought of it before (and no- I’m not spoiling your creative ideas by telling you hers!) – and now I feel like my whole mind is open to a new color scheme on this quilt! Make sure that you shop around with open eyes- who knows what you could come up with.

If you’re struggling for inspiration, then check out my Potting Table Pinterest board – curated with all sorts of great inspiration photos to get you going.

Here are just a few color schemes that I found delicious…what will you find?!

Ready to color?!

Now that you’re inspired, lay out all your fabric choices and use this handy dandy coloring sheet to solidify your design. Just download and print!

Ready to Shop?

If you’re ready to hit the quilt shop, make sure that you download and print your fabric and supply list before you go!

If you’re more of an online shopper, you can download the list and simply click on items to go right to that page on Amazon!

Get it Together!

Now, before I set off on a year-long adventure, I’ve got to get organized!

Why is this important? While I include fabric requirements for each month, I do suggest, encourage, and enable the saving of scraps from one month to the next. It saves YARDS and YARDS of fabric that way. So, some sort of separation between months is going to be key for staying organized.

In addition to baggies for each month, a cute binder for all of your pattern pages never hurts! Then you’ll have a place to write down notes or even stash a few snippets here and there.

Keeping Up

Listen, I’ve heard it a THOUSAND times. We all have projects that we have started with excitement and vigor and then just fizzled out on. But right now, let’s focus on what is in front of us: a gorgeous pile of shiny new fabric, a lovingly colored mock up, and a whole slew of new friends making this quilt together!

If you haven’t already, make sure that you join the BOM Facebook group – here we’ll get to chat with fellow BOMers, myself, and even sponsors! We’ll share our fabric pulls, triumphs, and love of all things quilty and planty…it’s going to be great, but you have to join to enjoy it with me!

Feeling Intimidated?

Part of the trouble with keeping up sometimes is feeling overwhelmed! If that’s you right now, maybe consider adding on my virtual BOM class. In this video series, I’m going to take you through each monthly pattern, step by step. The classes will be yours for life, so you’ll be able to fast forward, rewind, pause, and play over and over again until you’ve mastered each step.

Classes will be released on the same day as each new pattern. In addition to the virtual class videos, you’ll also receive really helpful tools like my cheat sheets on different techniques!

So, what do you say?! Are you ready to go!?

Let’s make sure you’re ready! Did you…
