Inspiration board

As you probably saw in my February Flash Back, we are (Lord willing) starting basement renovations very soon! It seems like all I’ve been doing is planning and planning, but that is such an important part of the process! There’s a few key pieces in the planning that I’d like to share with you today. Some are more exciting than others, but all are equally important!

I know, I know, it’s been done a million times! But despite the amount of pins on my Pinterest boards, I rarely end up successfully completing a project. Today I’m going to share my experience and success with whitewashing my fireplace! I’m beyond thrilled with the results and am considering ‘blackwashing’ my basement fireplace this year. I’m not convinced that blackwashing is a thing yet, but after I give it a try, maybe it will be! [Update: I found out it’s a thing, and you should check out my tutorial on how to blackwash your brick fireplace!]

Gift Wrap

“Presentation is everything!” This is something my dear friend, Gizella, always said. Whether we were carefully placing plucked mint leaves on the rim of our iced tea glasses or wrapping a gift, she was always making sure that things were “just so” and teaching me how to do the same. Today, I’m going to help you make your Christmas “just so.”

Bathroom Caulk

Today I come to you with a great little project that will have your bathroom looking 10 years younger is no time flat! It’s time to tackle that nasty caulk around you tub, people. It’s actually not as hard as you think and I’m going to share 1 trick with you that will make all the difference!

A full tutorial and instructions (with pictures) on how to DIY bind a carpet remnant.

In my endless search for reasonably priced floor coverings, I have come to a conclusion: no such thing exists.

But then I walked (somewhat tentatively) into Ollie’s Bargain Outlet. If you haven’t been there, go. It’s somewhat overwhelming and slightly frightening, and there’s no such thing as customer service there. BUT there are really great deals, which makes it all worth it.

And there I found it.

Doorknob Tieback

Today, I’m excited to share my very own DIY tutorial on doorknob curtain tiebacks! I chose to use vintage glass doorknobs since they have to be the most beautiful and timeless things ever! This is a great project to add a ton of class in just a few minutes, and it’s a blast to hunt for the perfect pair of doorknobs!

How to Build Equity

I know … I’ve been there too. Completely inspired by Property Brothers, Income Property, and the handful of other good-looking people on HGTV, I’ve thought to myself I could do that, wait…and I could make $120,000 with one house?! Count me IN! I’ve been around the house flipping business for a few years now and have watched some really huge checks get cut, but I’ve also seen some serious cash and time invested for one or two thousand dollars. It’s hard to curb the home equity bug, but when you don’t have $300,000 to invest on a single home, get inspired to do the next best thing: build equity into your own home! It’s been a struggle in purchasing our first home, trying to balance realistic goals and inspired frenzy. But once I did the research, I was surprised to find that building equity into your home isn’t as fun, or as hard, as I initially thought. Be sure to check out what I found before tearing down walls and gutting the bathroom.

Tulle Lampshade

With a little niece, I’m in full precious baby girl mode. My sister in law asked if I would be able to replicate a lampshade that she saw at Ikea. I instantly knew the one that she was talking about and said yes! This is a perfect baby girl lamp shade, princess lamp shade, or fairy lamp shade. It’s the girliest thing that I could possibly imagine and here’s how to make it!

It’s feeling like a DIY day! Today we are going to look at how to recreate this awesome wall, created by yours truly for another volunteer classroom project at my church! We wanted to go with a really industrial feel for the high schoolers’ space…keeping it gender neutral and visually interesting. It’s really quite simple once you know the process, so here we go!
