It’s time for a new piece that I’m calling The Monthly Mirror! Each month, we are going to go through a very beautiful, very expensive space and help you get the look without breaking the bank. This could include product links, DIY ideas or even tutorials! I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. If you have a space that you’d love to replicate, send me a message or leave a comment on my Facebook page—maybe it will be the subject of next month’s Monthly Mirror!
Our first space is the infamous HGTV Dream Home for 2015. I hope, as I’m sure you all do, that I will win this year, but just in case I don’t, we’re going to try to achieve the look of the Dream Home’s Great Room in our humble living rooms…let’s get started!

The Look
Take a look at these beyond-gorgeous images by HGTV—what an incredible, amazing, gorgeous space! They are definitely going for an open, airy space with lots of character. Bead board, natural elements and perfect accents create an awesome space.
Make It Yours
First off, these architectural details make all the difference in this space. The amazing exposed beams in the ceiling give an earthy, timeless feel. If you want to create this look in your space but don’t have the existing architecture to do it, take a look at FauxWoodBeams.com. You’ll find a lot of really great options to give you this look with styrofoam. Yes, styrofoam! Having used this product before, I can vouch for it—you’ll swear it’s wood! Check it out on the ceiling of my client’s bedroom. They also offer faux brick and stone—try it on a wall to give a high end look like the Dream Home has in the entertainment area!
Now that we discussed the ceiling, let’s work our way from the ground up: a great rug grounds the whole space. Look for something with a large pattern in neutral tones. The Land of Nod has a great little number called the Magic Carpet…who doesn’t love the sound of that?!
Next are the main furniture pieces. The coffee table has some really dark tones and interesting lines. Slat tables always make for a great piece and provide storage. Try a similar shape from Shopfreely.com or something a little more rustic! A table with slats adds some great detail, character and even extra storage space—take a look at this farmhouse table from Dot & Bo!
This dresser doesn’t have the same lines, but it does have the same distressed look and feel of the Dream Home hall dresser—check it out on One King’s Lane!
A major player in any space is the upholstered furniture. The Dream Home is going for a little bit of whimsy or nautical style with their armless chairs. Try something like the Davis Armless Chair. The important features are the lack of arms and those gorgeous little pinstripes!
Nothing sets off the furniture like some lovely pillows—can there ever be too many?! Try mixing it up, for example, by using a few simple neutrals and then a fun image or pattern! Check out the great selection at One Kings Lane.
It’s All in The Details
And last, but not least, the accessories! There are a ton of pieces that grace the beautiful built-ins of the dream home, but these pieces fit the style perfectly and will get you headed in the right direction!
This adorable terrarium fits in nicely with some of the accessories that look old, bleached or even a little beachy check it out at on Modcloth!
Don’t forget the tried and true places like Target.com. They have some really great accessories that will give the lived-in, artifact feel that the HGTV Great Room gives off! Try this great piece that looks hand-carved! One King’s Lane offers endless ideas for great accessories like the Long Life Jar —it’s a really great piece that looks similar to the hall dresser!
What is your favorite part of the HGTV Dream Home this year? And what would you like to see on next month’s Monthly Mirror? I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions in the comments below!
