Modern Vintage: The Ultimate Travel Bag

A Special Guest post by Kera and Rachel

Today I have a special treat for you!

My good friend, Kera, loves to make ByAnnie bags – she love’s Annie’s clear instructions and organized bag designs. She’s one of the most humble people I know, but I’m here to brag because she is a wonderfully talented sewist!

Today, Kera and I are going to share about the bag she made using Annie’s pattern and my fabric line, Modern Vintage: Treasured.

Enjoy this sweet post from Kera and myself:

I am a huge fan of Rachel Rossi’s fabric especially Modern Vintage: Treasured and a huge fan of ByAnnie patterns.  All that fan girling came together when I used Treasured to make the quintessential ByAnnie bag called the Ultimate Travel Bag
Kera doesn’t know that actually fan-girl over her all the time too! It’s a mutual fandom!

Rachel chose which fabrics in this line to use for the bag and then we decided together on the ByAnnie hardware and zippers that fit them best.  Treasured is printed on unbleached cotton, saving tens of thousands of gallons of water and it has a fantastic feel to it (see more about how this fabric is created here!).

This is a substantial sized bag and it will see tons of travel miles so feel is very important.

I chose this blue floral poppy print because I had purposefully not used this print as the main print in any of my quilts for this line! I knew this would be the most popular print in the line and that no one needed any direction on how to use it…but I wanted to have something made out of it- it’s a showstopper! This bag was the perfect thing!

I love how the bag turned out and of course my favorite part is the fussy cutting for the carrying strap pad.  That particular vase was just such a perfect shape and size to fit on the pad.

I agree with Kera: This has to be the best detail on the bag! Nothing like a good fussy cut!

If you saw Rachel’s booth at Quilt Market, this bag was there full of Rachel’s patterns and Shorthand templates.  Annie Unrein herself saw the bag in person during the show.  I was so excited when I heard that — it was like I had met Annie too!

Annie was so kind. It was a delight to meet her in-person…I felt like I could have stayed in her booth and chatted all day!
And I can vouch for the bag holding IT ALL! It was full of patterns, catalogs, and had room for more!

Now it is time for you to grab your favorite bag pattern (find the Ultimate Travel Bag pattern here) and your favorite print from Modern Vintage: Treasured.  You will be sew glad you did!
