Stencils may conjure up images of your childhood, outdated bedroom, or the dentist office that hasn’t been touched since 1975. Well, I’m sorry, but you’re wrong!
I’ve highlighted one of my favorite designers, Amy Butler, and her book, Amy Butler Stencils, to show you that stencils can add a fresh, modern element to your space.
Accessories
Look at that blank wood tray. Boring. What about that white lampshade? Blah! These are some of the easiest things to stencil! All you need is acrylic paint, a brush and stencil. Now get moving! Any fabric or wood surface that doesn’t get washed or worn will be fine with the acrylic. If you’re nervous about rubbing on wood, try a thin coat of Mod Podge to seal it.
Fabric
This is probably no surprise coming from this fabric junkie! I even found a great how-to from Cutting Edge Stencils on how to stencil on fabric. This is a great company with great stencil designs.
Area Rugs
Loving this project…if only I had somewhere in need of a rug! Though it’s somewhat tedious, this project makes a beautiful statement on an otherwise boring area. Check out this great tutorial from DIY On The Cheap.
Ceramic
This has to be one of my favorite things to stencil on! You can make all of your dinnerware so personal! Get a set of white dishes and make a one-of-a-kind dinnerware set! Check out this tutorial from HGTV.
To get these gorgeous stencils and step-by-step instructions on each material, get Amy’s book, Amy Butler Stencils!
By using different sections of the stencils, you can create some pretty great and cohesive designs. I’d love to see your completed projects or hear about your great stencil tips and ideas in the comments below!
