It’s February—dreary, wintry February. All I can think about is summer: vacation, planting a garden…any thoughts of green or warmth just make me want to burst! So, I thought to cheer things up I’d share about my sister’s sweet baby shower that my mom and I hosted a few months back. The theme: you are my sunshine, my only sunshine!
All of these images were taken by Brittney Kreider, a dear friend and excellent photographer! To see more of her work visit Brittney Kreider Photography.
None of this could have been possible without the help of all of my friends and family—thank you to everyone who made this day possible!
The Setting
Finding a place to have a baby shower seems to be a nearly impossible task! You need somewhere affordable, large, and gorgeous! Thank goodness that a dear friend of mine goes to a wonderfully gorgeous church with a beyond amazing fellowship hall—thanks Diane! I don’t have a great image of the space itself, but you’ll get the idea from the pictures below:
First of all, this is the cutest (handmade!) gift that Sara got—I’m in love! Anyway, the real reason I’m showing you this is for the floor to ceiling windows in the background. There’s even a gorgeous rose garden just outside- it is the perfect setting for any event!
And yes, we are adorable, but look at the gorgeous gardens behind us!
Behind the drink and refreshment table. We used simple pipe and drape to hold up the white curtain and then strung paper rain drops on thread for a little bit of visual interest.
Simple centerpieces add to the whimsy of the theme and don’t distract your guests from interacting! Some mason jars, ribbon, and baby’s breath do the trick!
Baby Shower Food
Lets be honest: the best part about going to baby showers (other than giggling over adorable baby things) is the food! Never is there ever so much girly, little, tasty food in all the world! Below we have melon balls, lemon & mint infused water, caprese, and of course sunshine cupcakes!
Baby Shower Games
And we all know… the worst part about baby showers is the embarrassing games! We didn’t want to put my dear sister on the spot or make her feel embarrassed, so we went with baby shower activities, rather than games. “My Water Broke” is a great game that is perfect for guests. Take a look at the pictures below and you’ll get the idea!
Our second activity had guests cut a string and guess how big around Sara’s belly was. They cut their twine & placed their name on it for the judge to measure and announce the winner later!
My favorite activity was decorating onesies! We had simple white onesies (in all different sizes), T-shirt paint, and cardboard stencils out for the guests to decorate a onesie! Once they were done, we had them hanging on a clothesline to dry. The guests loved this and now Sara has plenty of onesies to get her and her little man through their first year!
A few weeks after our baby shower, Sara’s sweet baby boy was born. We were so glad to have been able to welcome into the world with a great baby shower. Now that he’s here, we are more smitten than we could ever have imagined—he truly is our sunshine!
What are some of your favorite baby shower themes? Mine is definitely You are my sunshine! I’d love to hear your favorites in the comments below!

This is just the sweetest theme ever for a baby shower! I adore those cloud pillows and such a great idea decorating the little oneies. The Water Broke idea is the cutest!
Thanks Debbie! Keep an eye out for a tutorial or pattern for those pillows- we made them ourselves!
Gorgeous baby shower! I love all of the little details and decorations. My own baby shower was very minimal. We had it at my moms house and didn’t really have a theme. I love theme you used though!
Thanks so much! Her nursery was going to have a sunshine theme, so it was an easy place to start & then the decorations could be used in her nursery.
Oh thanks for sharing this. I have a friend who’s pregnant with her second child and these are some very cute things to do.
That’s great! I’ve heard about some smaller showers (called “Sprinkles”) for second babies! This would be the perfect theme for a Sprinkle!
What a beautiful way to arrange a baby shower, record the event, and welcome a new baby into the world. Your photos and effort shine through. 🙂
Thank you so much Elizabeth! That is really beautiful- we worked so hard to welcome this little guy into the world and are completely smitten with him! 🙂
Really cute games! What neat decorations too. You have some really cool ideas for a themed baby shower.
Thanks so much Theresa! The ladies in my family aren’t huge fans of the usually-embarassing games, so we try to keep it fun and the focus off of the lady of the hour, that gives her a relaxing, social time! 🙂
Wow! This is such a cute party, so well styled, and the games sound so fun! And the foooood! Sounds like a blast.

It was such a great time! Thanks for your comment!
Do you have a pattern for the clouds and the raindrops?
I Thanks for your question Carly, As of now, I don’t have a pattern for them. For the clouds we just cut out the shape that we wanted and sewed either side to a 2-3″ strip. For the raindrops, we just cut out two of that shape, sewed them right sides together and flipped it right-side-out. Then we stuffed and sewed them shut. I hope that’s helpful! If I get a pattern out, I’ll be sure to let you know!
