We Made It!

I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but the Block of the Month is actually over!

Now, I know that “over” isn’t exactly what it is…you’ve still got quilting and binding and labeling to do, but the heavy lifting of creating the top is done.

Amazing job everyone!

It has been an absolute blast to see all the finished quilt tops flowing into my inbox and popping up on Facebook over the past few weeks- you’re all absolutely amazing!

Who doesn’t love to be matchy-matchy?

Aren’t Quite There Yet?

Missing a block? No worries! You can return to these at any time by clicking on the images below. These will also always be available in your account if you want to return to them in future years.

The images above will send you to the main Block page that all members have access to. To get to previous classes, click here and you’ll be directed to the class members page.

A Little Bonus

There’s nothing quite like a quilt back that coordinates with the quilt top, but a matching LABEL?! Yes. I said it. I’ve got a little bonus project for you to work on to really put this over the top. You’ll need to gather a few supplies:

  • Leftover Curved Piecing from Block 5 (Planter)
  • Background and leaf scraps
  • Wash-n-Gone Interfacing (optional, depending on how you prefer to create labels)
  • Monofilament Thread
  • Elmer’s Disappearing Purple Glue Stick
  • That Purple Thang
  • Stabilizer (and lots of it!)

Quilting and Inspiration

The quilting on my quilt is an edge-to-edge design created by Karlee and longarmed by Cindy Carey of North Star Longarm Quilting. I highly recommend the quilting services and designs from both of these ladies!

Edge to Edge

If you’re going with an edge to edge design, I’d suggest taking a look at Karlee’s incredible selection of designs. I have spent HOURS scrolling through these unique beauties and know you’ll find something you love! If your longarmer doesn’t happen to have these designs on file, they are generally happy to purchase the design and add it to their library. Just make sure to ask if this is an option before getting attached to something you love!

I chose to go with a very large scale pattern that included lots of different imagery…something that felt very natural I think the large scale really worked well to balance the interest of the quilt top without taking over.

Custom

Now, I am not about to claim that I am anything more than a humble piecer. The quliting part of quilting is something that I have yet to master. BUT there are so many classes out there for free-motion quilting, so why not try one?!

I know, I know… they are not all created equal. But if you’re going to take just one class this year, then Graffiti Quilting by Karlee Porter is the one to choose! I’m really hoping that I can carve out the time to learn this incredible skill and take this amazing course!

In this expanded online course, Karlee explains her creative process in a very down to earth kind of way anyone can follow. From the beginning novice to the advanced professional, Karlee breaks things down and builds them back up in a way that every single skill level can catch the wave and level up their skills. What will YOU choose?! Edge to edge? Custom? HAND QUILTING?!
I want to know all about your choice of finishing for this quilt – Please be sure to post your progress and update me in the Facebook group on on Instagram – even drop me an email to update me on how things are going!

Finishing Touches

There are a few finishing touches (optional of course!) that you can add once your quilting is done!

We can’t forget about the buttons on the handles of those trowels! Simply hand stitch them on once everything is quilted up…or just leave them plain if you’d like!

There are lots of fun ways to embellish this quilt for even more interest…ladybug buttons anyone?

Or what about a butterfly that just happened to land on your luscious plants?

oh…THESE would be the Bee’s Knees!

Leave it plain or bug-dazzle it! No matter what you do, I’d love to see what you come up with! Be sure to post or email me an image when you’re finished – this is the BEST part of my job!
