Oh, Tannenbaum Returns: A Fresh Look for a Favorite Winter Quilt

Some patterns never really leave your heart.

When I first designed Oh, Tannenbaum, I wanted to create a quilt that captured the feeling of winter evergreens without feeling tied to a single holiday.

Inspired by the simple beauty of pine trees and clean, modern design, it quickly became one of my favorite designs.

Now, I’m excited to share that Oh, Tannenbaum is back!

This beloved pattern has been re-released and given fresh life in my new Winter Haven fabric collection.

Winter Style That Lasts Beyond December

One of the things I love most about this quilt is that it celebrates winter rather than just Christmas.

The tree-inspired blocks feel right at home during the holidays, but they also work beautifully throughout the entire winter season. The geometric shapes create a modern, midcentury-inspired look that feels timeless whether you’re decorating in November or leaving your quilt out until spring.

With Winter Haven, the design takes on an entirely new personality.

The collection was inspired by quiet winter woods, snowy mushrooms, woodland creatures, and evergreen forests. I wanted to capture the peaceful magic of winter without making it feel overly holiday-themed, and Oh, Tannenbaum fit right into that category.

The rich pine greens, woodland reds, and soft neutrals bring depth and warmth to every tree block, creating a quilt that feels cozy, sophisticated, and wonderfully seasonal.

A Great Scrap-Buster (Yes, Really!)

If you’ve been collecting holiday fabrics for years or those lovely tone-on-tones—or maybe just have a basket full of green prints you’ve been saving for the perfect project—Oh, Tannenbaum is a fantastic way to put them to use.

The repeating blocks and scrappy background blocks make it easy to showcase a variety of fabrics while still creating a cohesive finished quilt. It’s one of those projects that looks impressive but comes together more easily than you might expect.

Curves Made Simple

Don’t let the curves intimidate you.

Like my other Shorthand patterns, Oh, Tannenbaum includes paper templates, and it’s fully designed to help quilters build confidence with curved piecing. If you already own the Shorthand Template Set, cutting becomes even faster and easier, and it’s easy to grab a set if you need! You can see all of my how-to videos here before committing.

Whether you’re new to curves or already love them, this quilt offers plenty of repetition to help you settle into a rhythm and enjoy the process.
