Whew, this week is a big one! You know that something big is about to happen when I’ve gone silent on the blog for a few weeks (which never happens!) Today I’m following up the release of my newest pattern, Bloctopus with my part in the By Hand Blog Hop. This beautiful blog hop highlights the gorgeous new fabric collection by Amy Friend. She created this fabric for Contempo, a division of Benartex.
I have to admit, once in a great while I get a little obsessive over a fabric collection, and I’ll make everything out of it. Quilts, skirts, curtains, wallets…it can really get out of hand quickly. By Hand is one of those collections—and fair warning, you’re going to be seeing it here on the blog again in the very near future!
These gorgeous prints are just begging for the spotlight, which made it perfect for my two fabric quilt, Bloctopus.
Blue and Orange are the two complementary colors that you just can’t go wrong with. The contrast in these two fabrics is just perfect.
I think my favorite part about this collection is the hand-created quality that you get from it. I have a feeling a lot of customers are going to be asking me if I painted my own fabric!
If you’d like to create your own ocean creature with this collection, I’ll let you in on what I used from the By Hand collection:
- Ocean Background: Toothpicks Teal
- Octopus Body: Mosaic Mango
- Binding: Pluses Mango
And since this pattern just released, you can order your fabric, and get your copy of the pattern today! Just head on over to my shop and download or pre-order a hard copy!
Now, I only used 3 of the glorious fabrics in this collection for Bloctopus. If you’d like to get your hands on the rest of these beauties, make sure you enter to win a fat quarter bundle, generously provided by Benartex for my readers!
All you need to do to enter is hop on over to my Instagram profile, “like” the picture you see below, and tag a friend! We’ll choose a winner on Friday, October 19! (Contest open to US residents only)
I’m on the tail end of this blog hop, so if you’re getting into the game late, make sure to check out the gorgeous creations using the By Hand collection from these creative ladies:

Cute quilt. Love the colors and the quilting. Have to admit, my 1st thought was of a jellyfish. Maybe that is because one of my granddaughters recently had a very close and painful encounter with one when we were at Gulf Shores, AL a couple of weeks ago. But it is a wonderful picture of an octopus.
Thanks Nancy,
That’s the beauty of a more abstracted design- it can be whatever you want it to be! I’m sorry your last jellyfish encounter was not a good one! I went to the Jellies Exhibit in Chicago a few years ago and it was incredible…no stings either!
Thanks for your kind words 🙂
I am loving this fabric line more and more each day, and your Bloctopus pattern is the perfect showcase for it (my favorite colors, too)!
Thanks so much! I’m glad you love it- this collection is slightly addictive!
Love your Blockopus. But, alas, can’t like on Instagram as I don’t do that.
Thanks Evelyn! I’ll count this comment as a like! 😉
Love your quilt! This is such a fun collection of fabric. Can’t do the Instagram thing.
Thanks Susan, I’ll count this as your entry. 🙂
Your Blockopus is gorgeous!
Thanks so much Cecilia! 🙂
Adorable! Love the colors, the quilting, the design! It’s such a fun quilt! I’m really loving the fabric too! Amy has a winner!!
Gorgeous quilt. Love the finish.

Thanks so much Carla!
Definite smile maker. New to your blog, found you via Amy’s fabric line with Benartex.
Awesome, I’m so glad you found me 🙂 Thanks for your kind words!
This fabric is gorgeous and it works beautifully for the Bloctopus quilt. (I love the name!) I like the quilt in blue and orange and that quilting is AMAZING!
Taking a second look at the amazing quilting. It is fabulous.
Glad to hear it! The quilting was done by Northstar Longarming- she’s incredible!
