easy modern potholder

“So…somehow I’m the activities director for the guild,” I sheepishly explained to my husband after my very first guild board meeting – I had just agreed to shadow at the Modern Quilt Guild for a position in 2019. So, I’m really not sure how it happened, but I was indeed appointed to be the activities director for 2018. I was actually pretty excited about the whole miscommunication, the only problem: I’d have to participate in the activities! And if you know anything about me, you’ll know that I’m a little busy. So, I justified my appointment and reassured myself that it would all work out, I’ll just make each project and blog about it! Double points for having fun, using scraps, and getting work done. So, over the next few months you’ll see some fun smaller projects on the blog that are perfect for small gifts, guild events, and swaps!

There’s so many fun products out there, but today I’m going to tell you about my current favorite: Insul-Bright! It’s a really neat type of batting that you can use in so many ways; ironing board covers, oven mitts, hot pads, casserole caddies, lunch boxes…really the options are endless!

Now, this week’s pictures are a bit boring, and well…white. But I promise, next week will be a fun and colorful post that you’re sure to love! (Continue reading…)

The perfect little gift for babies on Valentines Day! DIY in under an hour, using what you have at home.

Although my little love bug won’t understand the notion of a valentine from her mama, I still want to do something special for her this year! I’ve created a sweet little toy that she can enjoy for many stages: For now, I’m sure the giant buttons hidden inside will probably be the big hit. Later, as she learns how to put buttons through holes, zip and unzip, it’ll be a great skill-builder. And much later, when she’s sending imaginary letters to her pen pal, I’ll be so glad I took an hour or so to create this special gift for her. What will you come up with? (Continue reading…)

Today I’ve got a fantastic DIY project for you! In a new adventure that I’ve gotten ourselves into, we’ve decided that it’s time for a big change in our front yard. I’ve dubbed this project as “un-landscaping.” After a whirlwind year, and our front flowerbeds mysteriously being weeded (I’m assuming by our sweet neighbors) while we were away for the weekend, it’s time to step back and admit our limits. Flowerbeds aren’t beautiful when they are being taken over by weeds and untrimmed, disproportionate shrubs. (Continue reading…)

Finally! My big day has come and I am officially a vendor at my first Quilt Trade Show! I’ve been to the Lancaster Quilt Show with my mom and her quilt shop in previous years, and it certainly isn’t for the faint of heart! This little convention center holds over 3,000 quilters, crafters, and sewists for 4 days every March, and this year I finally got to officially join the party. I was excited to meet all these new quilting friends and expand my business to trade shows. (Continue reading…)

I know this is a first time parent thing…but I am absolutely convinced that my exceptional daughter is bored out of her mind…I mean—how couldn’t she be!? So, rather than waiting for teethers and grasping toys to arrive in the mail, I did what any good mommy would do: I made her some toys! Today’s post is a quick and easy tutorial on how to make a ribbon blanket for your baby. It’s the perfect home made teether or grasping toy! Let’s get started: (Continue reading…)

The blue Tupperware.

I remember it well; this blue Tupperware container was made for making homemade wipes. My mom used it for my brother, my sister, and me and even saved the container to pass onto us when we had our own babies to make wipes for. Smart lady, because Tupperware stopped making these containers!

I know it sounds like a big hassle, but making your own wipes is an incredibly easy way to save some cash when you’ve got kids in diapers! My Mom shared this recipe with me, and now I’m sharing it with you! (Continue reading…)

It’s Valentines Day; Love is in the air, there are  sunshine, flowers, and tutus everywhere! Actually, tutus aren’t just for ballerinas and Valentines Day, but for birthdays and Christmas and all year around. I’ve seen these tutus all over Etsy and the rest of the internet for incredible prices, but did you know you can make your own for less than $5? It’s really simple, so today I’m going to show you how to make your own tutus for any celebration, for just $5. (Continue reading…)

This short little post is just for you who like to get a little extra something when you make a purchase! As you already know, my Timber! quilt pattern is part of the One Thimble February issue (yippee!). Now through February 13, when you buy issue 14 from One Thimble, you’ll get this great cut pack for all your craft cutting machines! I just got a Cricut Explore Air™ for Christmas this year & was thrilled to have a great design to use! I love the boho feel and raced out to get my iron-on material and a nice tank from Old Navy! (Continue reading…)

We all see them—you know, those beyond adorable outfits and headbands that sparkle on every shiny new babe’s birth announcement. I’ve been lucky enough to start working with my new friend, Nicola (check her newborn photography out, you’ll be blown away!), on some of those outfits, wraps, and headbands for her studio. I thought that you might enjoy getting a little peek at what I’ve been creating and a quick tutorial on how you can make your own photo-worthy headbands at home! (Continue reading…)

promo image for a tutorial on growing a luffa gourd and turning it into a luffa sponge

Flipping through the Burpee’s Seed catalog this spring was, as usual, way too inspiring. I flipped over the page and saw among the squashes: luffa. I did a double-take and realized that not every bathroom sponge has to grow under the sea—I could grow my own luffa sponges!

I quickly added these miracle seeds to my order and anxiously awaited their arrival. A few weeks later, I was planting four tiny seeds into the ground, no idea what I was in for. Little did I know that these vines would take over at least a quarter of my giant garden and flower well into October; I’ve got enough luffa to keep a small country squeaky clean.

diy-changing-table-from-hoosierToday is a show-and-tell sort of day! I’ve finally finished up reworking my Hoosier find (more like a steal) that I told you all about way back in the summer. I’ve long dreamed about turning a Hoosier—I guess mine is technically a Dutch Kitchen (we’ve always called it a Hoosier)—into a changing table, and I can’t believe I made it happen! I’m going to show you how I updated this antique piece to be a fully functioning changing table and share all the sweet little details hidden inside: (Continue reading…)
