A sewing tutorial on how to cover up a utility sink with a sink skirt!

As things round up in my laundry room, there was one eyesore that I just couldn’t let go. The utility sink. I’d love to have made an amazing sink base for this little guy, but it just wasn’t going to happen. So, a sink skirt it was—when in doubt, fabric is usually the answer.

My laundry room is the only room in my house that I could call a country style. It also doubles as my canning room during the summer and fall months, so it only seemed proper to make it feel a little homey. Besides, everyone should have at least one room in their house that channels every sweet memory of their mother. The canning/laundry room is mine, which is perfect because there’s nothing that my mom loves more than rows of colorful mason jars and the smell of laundry fresh off the line. It’s a love that she’s instilled in both me and my sister. (Continue reading…)

A sleeve board is a mini ironing board that fits right into the sleeves of a man’s dress shirt. As the wife of a teacher, who wears a dress shirt every day, this has been a longed-for tool for the past two years of teaching—I simply can’t deal with the crease that ironing creates in every sleeve I iron! After a long and daunting hunt for a sturdy antique sleeveboard, I’ve discovered that they all are nasty & will need a little DIY love, so today I present to you How to Clean Up an Old Sleeve Board: (Continue reading…)

Wood Stain that is safe during pregnancy

This DIY tutorial shows you how to stain furniture with no harmful chemicals like stain. Coconut oil rehydrates and invigorates the wood back to its original beauty!

It’s finally here—what I’ve been searching for for the past 4 months of pregnancy—a wood stain that is safe during pregnancy! Well, it’s not actually a stain, but has the same effect. You might not even believe me when I tell you that I’m talking about coconut oil. That’s right! Rubbing coconut oil onto dried out or aged wood will change it so dramatically that you’ll think I’m lying. But when you try it for yourself, you’ll be giddy and scouring your home for something else to try it on! (Continue reading…)

A great DIY update for your cabinets! Try this tutorial the explains how to cover the inside of your cabinets with fabric!

Today is a short and sweet tutorial on how to add fabric to the inside of your cabinets, bookshelves, or other boring storage units! This all started when I got free cabinet doors and frames for my laundry room and had to build the box. I figured it all out pretty well, and using 3/4″ plywood, I made myself some pretty great cabinets! When we went to paint the insides though, we discovered that plywood doesn’t always get the best coverage. So, I moved on to plan B and decided to cover up the plywood interiors with something lovely! And what is more lovely than fabric?! If you’d like to learn how to add fabric to your furniture, be sure to follow the tutorial below! (Continue reading…)

Before and After Blackwashed Fireplace

A few months ago, I posted about how to whitewash your fireplace. The whole time that I was working on that project, I was thinking to myself: Gee, I wonder if “blackwashing” is a thing?! After much searching (and Pinteresting) without finding much, I decided to figure it out myself! Let me tell you, despite the adrenaline rush I got while working on this project (potentially undoing my work by scrubbing down my giant fireplace with acid is not on my list of things to do), it was 100% worth it! I’m tickled with the results and so glad that I took the risk! Here’s a tutorial for you on how to “blackwash” your fireplace or other brick. (Continue reading…)

How to Make a Tie Rack

Father’s Day is almost here! Regardless of what you make or get for this Father’s Day, make sure to thank your dad. I’ve often noticed that Mother’s Day honors our mothers, and they deserve it. But often, Father’s Day is a call for dads to do, be, and get better. But I say, every other day of the year, our parents (mothers and fathers) strive to be the best they can be. Let’s take this Father’s Day to honor our dads for being the irreplaceable man in our lives. For every sacrifice he’s made, for every night shift, overtime, and sleepless night spent awake for my sake. To have a father is one of the best things in life—make sure that he knows that. Here's a great way to use leftover flooring! Make a headboard! The tutorial is easy to follow and the wall art or headboard looks great with any style!

Today I’ve got a super-fun super-easy headboard tutorial for you! This all started with an old box of odds and ends that my grandpa (we call him Pappap) gave me. There’s some question as to what all of these pieces once built, but by the sounds of it, it was some sort of hutch that my Great Pappap built himself. Not having any idea what this piece looked like, how big it was, or really what it was for, the box sat and sat in my garage. I nearly threw it away on multiple occasions, but didn’t want to throw away this little piece of family history! (Continue reading…)

Today I’m going to show you how I got shelving that is 10 times better than what I found in-store and cost about half of the price! (Continue reading…)

A full tutorial on creating a gift basket for Moms and babies that are premature!

After a beautiful stroll on the boardwalk, fireworks, and cherished time with family in Ocean City, we tucked ourselves in for the night—it was one of my favorite 4th of July memories. It wasn’t our original plan, but it was still special. We had planned on a huge party thrown by my sister-in-law, but she had unexpectedly been admitted to the hospital and was required to be there until her due date…in October. At about 2AM we were startled awake by a call from my mother-in-law. My sister-In-law was having an emergency C-section. She was only 28 weeks into her pregnancy with little J. After hours of waiting with family and friends, we learned that baby J was stable with just 2 lbs 9 oz and 13″ to him, but doctors were still concerned about his mother. So we waited in the hospital lobby, we waited at home, we spent an eternity waiting—it was one of my most terrifying memories. (Continue reading…)
