It’s the beginning of a fresh new year – why not try out something new or gain some new skills for your quilting toolbox?
I’m excited to announce that I am now offering virtual classes! The first of which is my ever-popular Starline Mini Quilt.
After a few years of awesome in-person workshops with lots of lovely ladies, I’ve decided that it’s time to go virtual. As our family grows, I’m finding that scheduling, prepping, and actually teaching classes in-person just isn’t feasible but I’m very excited about the endless possibilities that virtual classes and workshops offer!
SO, without further ado, I’d like to introduce you to the first virtual class that I’m releasing:
The Starline Mini Quilt Workshop
As part of the Shorthand series, Starline has been one of the most popular!
It could be the negative space (a longarmer’s dream!), the modern simplicity, or those interwoven stars…whatever it is, you all seem to like it, despite the fact that it’s my most advanced quilt pattern yet!
What could be better than tackling this beauty with me?
Meet the Shorthand Template
If you haven’t used my Shorthand Template before, you’ll get a great intro to this awesome tool in class. I’ll tell you all about best practices and you’ll see just what all the hullabaloo is about.
Conquer the Curve
If you’ve never sewn a curved seam before, you’re probably shaking in your boots. BUT LISTEN! I thought the same thing before I just sat down and gave it a try. Now I’m totally and hopelessly in love with curved seams – I can’t get enough!
In this workshop I’m going to show you the easiest way to sew curved seams in quilts. You’re going to love it – I promise!
Precision
Wondering why I called this my most advanced pattern yet? It has nothing to do with curves (that part is a breeze!). In class, I’m going to challenge you to work slowly and precisely. Trimming blocks and accurate 1/4″ seams matter all of the time, but when you’re trying to get beautiful matching points, it REALLY matters!
I’ll Be With You
The best part of class is the scariest part! Those nesting points? Oh yeah- we’ll be slicing up some freshly finished blocks to get that effect. But don’t worry, you can watch me do it as many times as you want (hello rewind button!).
I wanted to do my best to make this virtual class feel like an in-person workshop. So, despite the fact that you can work on this class at any hour of the day or night, rewind, and pause – I’ve included real-time footage of me sewing the mini quilt…so it’ll be just like we are sewing together! I’ve got a lovely music playlist going for you during our sewing time so that you can really enjoy our time together!
It’s All Yours
Each class contains SO much! There’s a good chance that you’ll want to create this mini quilt again, or want to go back and see how I did that seam matching trick – whatever it is that you’ll want to hold onto, it’ll be yours for the keeping.
I’m here to Help
As a pre-recorded class, you’re probably wondering what happens when you run into a snag. Great question!
For starters, I’ve done this class live before, so there’s a good chance that I’ve already addressed the problem in the course. BUT if somehow you manage to go off course you have a class community to support you and can message me about the specific problem.
Class Community
Yes, you read that right! I have a secret Facebook page just for students of my Starline Mini Workshop! Here you can post your fabric pulls, progress, and questions. It’s a great resource if you run into a snag or just need a little cheering on.
Ask Me!
If you do run into a problem, it’s easy to get in touch with me! You’ll simply scroll to the bottom of the course page and write in the discussions area. I’ll be notified that you have a question and will do my best to get back to you within 24 hours.
Student Perks
Workshops can get expensive. Fast.
So, not only have I tried to keep workshop pricing reasonable (get that discount code below!) I’ve also tried my best to give you some great discounts on supplies in my Starline Mini Class Kit.
This kit makes class prep easy and includes the Shorthand Template, Starline pattern, and all those other little random things on the supply list.
You’ve even got the option to add the 28mm Martelli Rotary Cutter to the kit at the student discounted rate…it’s a pretty darn good deal if you ask me!
Enrollment is Open!
Now, if you’re thinking that this seems like the class for you, I want to let you in on a little secret – this workshop can be all yours for just $29.99! Use coupon code Starline29 at checkout to get that awesome price.
So how about it? Head on over to my Starline Workshop enrollment page and get signed up today!
If you’re still not sure, you can check out a sample lecture here.
Hi Rachel! I am sooo excited to see that you are doing virtual classes! Unfortunately, my sewing room is being remodeled and I don’t have access to my sewing machine and supplies. I am definitely signing up for all of your other classes!! Thanks for being brave and offering this great opportunity!

What size is the mini quilt?
Hi Carol!
It measures about 18″ x 36″…more of a skinny than a mini! 😉
