You probably saw my post last week about my newest fabric line, Bushel & Bloom for Benartex, now shipping! (If not, check it out here!) As promised, today I’m going to spotlight one of the new patterns that released with this line, Alotta Terracotta.
A Garden Full of Personality
Like a sunny greenhouse packed with your favorite potted plants, Alotta Terracotta is a playful, whimsical quilt. It’s full of pots, sprouts, flowers (without being overly floral), and even a few pesky (but adorable) garden snails stopping by for a visit!
There is so much to customize with this pattern. Loving those snail blocks? Scatter a few more in here and there? Or are you not feeling the Black Eyed Susan? No worries – swap it out with something else! All this to say: there is alotta room to make this quilt completely your own.
Friendly Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP)
If foundation paper piecing sounds intimidating, take a deep breath—I’ve got you covered!
I designed Alotta Terracotta with the Adventurous Beginner in mind. The pattern includes clear, step-by-step illustrated instructions written with the assumption that you’ve never touched an FPP template in your life. Foundation paper piecing is such a great technique because it gives you crisp, razor-sharp points every single time without the stress of precision piecing…it might break your brain at first glance, but once you get it, you can do anything!
Recommended Supplies
Foundation Paper Piecing doesn’t require too much. In this pattern, I’m going to show you how to use the Freezer Paper Method, but you’re welcome to do your own thing with plain old paper!
Quilter’s Freezer Paper
This Freezer Paper is great because you can print directly on it from your home printer (Instant Download people rejoice!)
Looking for a cheaper option? Freezer Paper from the grocery store works just as well!
Rotary Cutter
A good rotary cutter is irreplaceable in the sewing room. This ergonomic design saved me and my carpal-tunnel-prone wrists!
Add-a-Quarter Ruler
I’m not the one with the ruler for every single thing BUT the Add-a-Quarter Ruler does make it a whole lot easier to get those 1/4″ seam allowances quickly and without too much fuss.
Iron
I love my big Oliso, but check out this little cutie, perfect for precise pressing those FPP pieces.
