HGTV Dream Home Living Room

It’s time for a new piece that I’m calling The Monthly Mirror! Each month, we are going to go through a very beautiful, very expensive space and help you get the look without breaking the bank. This could include product links, DIY ideas or even tutorials! I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. If you have a space that you’d love to replicate, send me a message or leave a comment on my Facebook page—maybe it will be the subject of next month’s Monthly Mirror!

Our first space is the infamous HGTV Dream Home for 2015. I hope, as I’m sure you all do, that I will win this year, but just in case I don’t, we’re going to try to achieve the look of the Dream Home’s Great Room in our humble living rooms…let’s get started!

Industrial Interior

It’s time for a new addition to the Style Series…I’m very excited to introduce you to industrial design! Industrial interior design is a fabulous style that is here to stay! It can be polished and expensive, it can be rough and cost-effective, masculine, feminine…you name it, industrial style can handle it! A close relative of minimalist design, industrial focuses on the beauty and simplicity of raw building materials. Industrial style embraces the basic structures of an interior and makes beauty out of the things that we typically try to hide.

Inspiration board

As you probably saw in my February Flash Back, we are (Lord willing) starting basement renovations very soon! It seems like all I’ve been doing is planning and planning, but that is such an important part of the process! There’s a few key pieces in the planning that I’d like to share with you today. Some are more exciting than others, but all are equally important!

cottage living room

An adorable addition to my style series is coming up today! Let’s talk about how to create a cottage style look in your home. My aunt has recently moved and while we were brainstorming some ideas on how to create this look in her home, I decided to share some of my ideas with you. The cottage style is very diverse. It’s actually quite similar to the shabby chic style. But there are certain elements that carry through no matter what direction you choose to go.

See what is up and coming for 2015 nursery trends. I love these nursery ideas!

It’s been one year since my 2014 nursery trends posts & I’m now a proud aunt to my little niece and nephew. I’m one of their biggest fans and can’t get enough time with them…I’ve fallen head over heels for these two. Having helped with two nurseries in 2014, I’m so excited for the upcoming trends for nurseries in 2015, so let’s take a look!

Pantone Color of the year

We interrupt this style series for a very important update! The color of the year for 2015 has been announced, the results are in, and the decision is final! Marsala is the new Radiant Orchid…and I like it!

Pantone colors are not only supposed to represent the up-and-coming colors for the year, but colors that represent the momentum and movement in the world. Marsala brings to mind the taste and vibrancy of wine and Indian spices, rich with deep tones of brown and red. It’s a rich, earthy, and culturally diverse color.

So here’s the question: how do we use it? What kind of ideas does it carry? How does it influence us? Color is powerful, and no color is more powerful than red.

Blue Depression Glass

Who doesn’t love the Shabby Chic style? It appeals to so many users that I might consider it one of the most-loved styles of interior design (that’s right—I said it!). I think the main reason for this is that it can go in so many different directions that it can have a very different impact from one design to the next. So let’s see what I love about this style so much and why you should love it too!

Concrete Minimalist Interior Design

Less is more…it’s really true! Today we are going to take a good look at the minimalist design style. This is a style that I really enjoy, but until now, haven’t found that it’s attainable—I’ve already changed my own mind on that, and hopefully you’ll read on and change yours too! So here it is: minimalist interior design!

Fabric

“I’m not sure what my style is. I like a little bit of everything…so I guess I’m eclectic!” Stop right there! Just because you like a lot of stuff doesn’t mean that you’re automatically part of the eclectic club! Though it seems like just a bunch of “stuff,” true eclecticism is a careful curation of that “stuff.” Let me tell you how: eclecticism takes different pieces from different styles and time periods and combines them harmoniously. It’s not knick-knacks or what you call a room that feels weird; it’s just a combination of styles into a cohesive space. How do we achieve this cohesive look? I thought you’d never ask!

traditional bedroom

I’m excited to introduce my series for the next few weeks! We are going to decipher some of the most common interior design styles and help you figure out what your interior design style is! We’ll work our way from the traditional style to (my favorite) the transitional and everything in between. Some of you may work in a few different styles in your own homes. But knowing what your tendencies are is a great way to communicate with designers and other design/tradespeople.
